Gardening and Homesteading in The Tropics

The website Tropical Food Garden belongs to Alyson Long and her family. It is a gardening blog primarily, but also covers other topics related to homesteading, food production, keeping animals (pets and livestock), cooking, preserving, DIY, and anything else we think may be interesting!

Alyson and her family own a 5-acre homestead or farm in the north of Australia. In tropical Far North Queensland.

Prior to purchasing this property, the family owned a suburban backyard permaculture garden in Port Douglas FNQ.

Alyson learned gardening from her Dad as a child, a degree in Biology added to her know-how, plus lots of practice and trial and error!
Anyone can grow their own food, just try!

Check out her tips for new gardeners, most are learned through experience!

Alyson is well-known as a travel blogger and author in the education niche. She has written for Lonely Planet, plus many other magazines and newspapers over the last two decades.
